University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index Falls
The Thomson/Reuters University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index has fallen to its lowest since May. Unemployment is expected to remain high, and retail spending remains down, although rising faster than expected.

UM Celebrates 50 Years of Peace Corps
Today the University of Michigan celebrated the 50th anniversary of the impromptu speech by John Kennedy in front of the Michigan Union that sparked the idea for the Peace Corps. Many former participants and officials were on hand to celebrate.

UM to Receive $1.5 Million From DOD
Michigan will receive money from the DOD to work on technology to prevent infections and heal burns incurred in the field. The idea is for it to be pain free and decrease heal time.

Internet Voting Not a Reality Yet
A group of University of Michigan graduate students have successfully hacked Washington DC's pilot project to return absentee ballots via the internet. Not only were they able to change the voting results, they were also able to view data on the ballots and the information of the individual voters.

UM's Aerospace Windtunnel Painted
The Aerospace Engineering Department's wind tunnel dome is being painted with a mural by artist Roberto Juarez. The wind tunnel is on North Campus, and the mural is expected to be completed Monday.

Ann Arbor, UM, Become Center of Power in State
In an article in the Free Press today, Tom Walsh explains that Ann Arbor is now the center of power in the state, attracting such companies as Toyota and Hyundai, as well as fielding the favored gubernatorial candidate this year. He attributes it to UM and its graduates living in the area.
